I meet amazing people
I'm about 6 or 7 weeks into the wedding 'season' & I'm busy. Today a couple came in to my studio to talk about their wedding for next year. Only it wasn't the normal 'couple' so to speak. The groom to be couldn't make it as he was flat out with study and work. So, Mum came along to support her daughter and maybe interrogate me just a little?? We chatted, I showed them some beautiful shots and they booked. A couple of hours ago I got an email from the Bride saying thanks and how excited she is to have me cover their day, but she also wanted to tell me something else about her.
She told me a tragic story.
Only 4 weeks ago she lost her father.
It happened whilst they were on an overseas trek with his wife and they were put in a serious life and death situation. He managed to heroically save his wife, but could not in the end save his.
It is of course such a hard thing for a young bride to contemplate not having her father with her on her wedding day and she has asked me to think about how we can honor him on her day.
I meet amazing people.
They allow me intimate access to their lives albeit for such a brief period, and it is not lost on me how important a role I am given on their day.
It has prompted me to post about the last 6-7 weeks of work and the amazing people I have met. Everyone of these people have let me into their lives in amazing ways and I hope I have been able to give them some life long memories they can share and a few of those 'important' images they will cherish for life.
In the past I've talked about how I shoot and things like having a dress millimetre perfectly placed for a photo isn't so important to me - rather, I want to be capturing the character of a person and those around them - the quiet ones, the loud ones, the fun ones, the thoughtful ones, the upset ones, the influential ones, the caring ones and of course those closest to us.
Her email today makes me think its still the way to go and the more important shot to get!
Sadly, I wont be able to capture her special one on her day - and im not sure what I can do, but Ill be thinking about what I can do to honor him for her.
