Last night I went along to an industry night for Fuji cameras - it was a new product launch. Nice kit to touch and feel and play with. I'm not really a camera freak in that I don't covet the latest and greatest, I don't use all the features a camera has, but I do want it to easily do the things I need it too, and as a pro, we stretch the limits of gear so i go along to check it out. What was great about last night is the fact we weren't ambushed with heaps of marketing and sales guff. What we did have the chance to do was meet Adam Fergusson, a sought after press photographer and a man who lives and breathes his photography and commitment to telling an authentic story of some of the worlds current scariest conflicts. His images are beautiful and shocking at the same time. Hearing the stories behind the images and the danger he puts himself in to make those images makes them many times more powerful.
I had my camera with me, and I walked out a little contemplative about shooting more for myself and indulging my 'eye'. I walked out somewhat inspired too. I know to walk around the streets of Adelaide simply doesn't compare to what I had just watched in Adams presentation, but just to document a little of what's occurring around me is good I think. Adelaide is coming quietly into its busy festive season with the Fringe festival and Arts festival coming up. Last night had a sense of whats coming soon. I wandered around and made some images of things that caught my eye...
